1. Why buy more RAM when my PC is slow?

2. What is a basic PC today? Why might I want more or less? Example system: HP Pavilion 340, $410, after $50 rebate.
   1. Windows XP SP 2.

   2. Intel Celeron D processor 340 with 533 MHz frontside bus, 256 KB L2 cache, and 2.93 GHz processor speed.

   3. 512 MB PC2700 DDR SRAM (watch out for video sharing).

      Intel Extreme Graphics with up to ``64 MB shared video memory.''

   4. 100 GB Ultra DMA hard drive (7200 RPM).

   5. DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive.

   6. 9-in-1 media card reader, 2 FireWire ports 5 USB 2.0 ports.

   7. No diskette drive. One each, serial and parallel ports.

   8. V.92 modem and/or 10/100Base-T Ethernet networking interface.
