Eclipse Oxygen Software for Java 8 Development

Preliminaries for Both Windows and Macs

Eclipse is Java software. If you don't have a Java JDK 8 installed, before proceeding further go here. For the version, select OpenJDK 8 (LTS) and select the HotSpot JVM. Then, download the installer for your platform (Windows x64 or macOS x64).

Windows Installation

The Instructions below are for 64-bit Windows systems only. If you have a Windows 8 or earlier system, see How to determine whether a computer is running a 32-bit version or 64-bit version of the Windows operating system if you're not sure about your Windows version.
  1. Enable "Show hidden files and folders".
  2. Download this ZIP archive.
  3. Open the ZIP archive and copy the eclipseOxygen folder to the C:\Program Files folder.
  4. Open the copied eclipseOxygen folder, find the eclipse executable, and place a shortcut to the executable on your desktop.
  5. Open the folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs and drag the eclipse shortcut into it.
  6. To test the installation, run eclipse from the Start Menu.
  7. You're finished.

Mac Installation

  1. Download this macOS disk image.
  2. Open the disk image. Drag Eclipse into the Applications folder.
  3. You're finished.
